Dr. Sonia Rahmani is an educator, entrepreneur, and chemical engineer, and the founder of Exelaa Education, a Metro Vancouver–based educational organization focused on personalized, student-centered learning.
She holds a PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering from the University of British Columbia (UBC), along with dual bachelor’s degrees in Chemical Engineering and Industrial Engineering. Her teaching and mentorship experience spans over 15 years, beginning in 2005 when she started tutoring mathematics while completing her undergraduate studies. During her PhD at UBC, she also served as a teaching assistant for courses in thermodynamics and fluid mechanics and earned an Instructional Skills Certificate.
Throughout her academic and teaching career, Dr. Rahmani developed a deep understanding of the importance of strong foundational skills in mathematics and science. She observed that many students struggle not because they lack ability, but because they lack confidence and conceptual grounding. This insight led her to establish Exelaa Education in 2017, with a mission to strengthen core skills while building academic confidence and long-term learning success.
Dr. Rahmani has extensive experience supporting diverse learners, including students with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), learning disabilities, executive functioning challenges, and mental health-related learning needs. Through individualized, evidence-informed teaching strategies, she has helped students reduce academic stress, improve performance, and develop greater independence in their learning.
She is also the creator of the Rahmani Method, a structured, student-centered teaching framework used to train Exelaa tutors. The method emphasizes interactive, hands-on, and guided learning approaches that make math, science, and chemistry more accessible and engaging for students.
Today, Dr. Rahmani leads a growing educational community serving students and families across Metro Vancouver through one-on-one tutoring, small-group instruction, and online learning programs. She also personally trains all Exelaa tutors through a structured onboarding program to ensure consistent, high-quality instruction across the organization.
